Producer’s Note

Prescribed measurements of Rockdom are clearly absent from this recording. Time and time again I was aghast at our seeming disregard for the conventions of state-of-the-art recording. Two tracks contained herein were recorded amongst suspicious laundry items and posters of legendary musical figures. Whether this was accidental or some warped kind of inspirational tactic is something I’m yet to fathom.

As is the danger in these surrounds all kinds of itinerants attempted to place themselves in history… Babalouie barking at an opportune moment, telephones ringing, doors slamming and a particularly feisty government bus all made cheap attempts to grab some limelight.

Moving now to a pub close to our heart we endeavoured to capture the ’Shins in all their live glory, though marrying great performances with great sound proved most elusive. Finally, aided by Sherman the boy genius we nailed this gem and endless thanks go to Harold and the particularly enthusiastic whistler.

Now, with the world at our feet, we entered a pleasure palace of coded messages, secret keys and corporate finance. Who could fail to be moved, coming down in the elevator at 9.00 a.m. after an all night slog, to greet a foyer of eager finance executives with blood on their breath.

Out in the traffic, shades down, spinning the curvy rhythms and threads through city blocks still yawning at the prospect of another day, we head home happy in the thought that the great elements of tension necessary in these pursuits had fused happily in the Bottle Man.
